"Hi, I'm Ann Myrick, and today I'm going to show you how to decorate your living room in cottage style. I'm a decorator, and I love working with what the homeowner already has. And what I did is, I went around this house. This room is a little bit minimal, and a little bit kind of soft contemporary, it's eclectic too, but there's a lot of contemporary pieces in here. And so what I'm going to do is kind of show you quickly how you can kind of go in the direction more of cottage than what it is now. So you want to- where you have the leather chairs that are very slick and straight lined, you want to soften those up. Cottage style is very soft, quilts, garden elements, and so you want to bring in the elements that will soften the room. So what I'm going to do is, I'm going to remove some of- I'm going to put the basket here, candle here. On the couch, to give a little more texture to the couch, I'm going to bring in some woven, this brings in a natural color along with the woven, along with the woven being kind of stick material, wood material, it kind of gives you a lot of texture. I love these McCoy pots, so I'm just going to put some pots around, love the horn, the basket, it's just a great basket, you can hang this up, or you can just- where I have metal and gold over here, what I might want to do is put this basket over here, and then put some things in it, where it just brings in a little bit more texture. My tray, I could remove all these boxes and just put a little black tray down, that's rusted, and then put my boxes on that, and you just want to soft it up. If I had other pillows, I would put the pillows on the leather chairs just to make them a little bit more softer. This is Ann Myrick, and that is how you make your living room a cottage look."
