"Hi, I'm James with JNC Home Repair. Today I'm going to show you how to fill rotted wood with wood filler. First thing you want to do is you want to prep your surface for wherever you're going to apply your wood filler. A good thing you're going to need, you're going to need a wire brush, you're going to need a five-in-one tool or just a basic putty knife, some kind of scraper or usually a putty knife or a five-in-one tool will work will work and it will also give you a little bit of extra applications with the little pointer and some other things, and then you'll need some basic wood filler. If you're planning on painting or staining the surface after you've made your repair, you need to make sure that the type of wood filler that you use is paintable or stainable, depending on what application you're deciding to use. If it's just some bare wood, then any kind of wood filler will work. But if you're going to paint something you need to make sure that it's paintable, if you're going to stain something you need to make sure that yo can stain it. Basically, what you want to do is you want to prep your surface with your wire brush. You want to clean any kind of old rotted wood out of there, clean it, get it kind of smooth with the wire brush. You can also use a scraper to get some of the bigger stuff off. And then after you've done that, you want to take your putty knife or your five-in-one tool, actually dip it in your wood filler, get you some out and apply it to your damaged area."
