Getting married is one of the most important steps a couple can take together, and the wedding day is often filled with joyous, special moments for the bride and groom, particularly the wedding cake ceremony. This traditional event occurs at the wedding reception, as the groom invites his bride to cut the cake with him, often followed by the couple smearing wedding cake on each other’s faces. Wedding cakes are traditionally layered cakes, with five or six layer designs being common. They often have hard marzipan frosting and are decorated in white and other wedding colors. Ordering the wedding cake by choosing from a wealth of options and samples is often a day trip for the bride and her mother or fiancé. In this free wedding cake decoration video series, professional cake designer Melissa Maggiore teaches how to decorate a whimsical, three-tier wedding cake. Maggiore discusses different icing patterns and how they change cake appearance. She offers suggestions for constructing the wedding cake and adding design elements and final details. Maggiore also explores the process of designing a wedding cake, including tips on hiding seams and saving time when serving.
"Hi, my name is Melissa Maggiore, I'm from Alessi Bakeries in Tampa Florida. I'm here to show you how to make a pastry bag using parchment paper. You would need a piece of parchment paper approximately 12 to 14 inches in length. You would want to curve the parchment paper at a far corner. Basically you're going to hold the bag towards you and curl it in a curling motion. Let the paper follow your finger tips, moving your finger tips to make a cone like shape. Then when you get your cone like shape like this, on the part that's on the inside of the paper parchment bag, you would want to actually grab that corner with your fingers that you just pulled forward, and make it into a tight cone shape. Once you have your tight cone shape, such as this, you can then curl the back edges of the points on the very top of the parchment paper bag to hold it in place so it doesn't move or lose its shape. Then if you would like it to even be a little more sturdier, you can take just a simple piece of scotch tape, wrap it around the end, and then you would be able to insert your tip, or whatever you might like to use to actually put into this parchment paper bag, and then just clip the end and you're ready to go. Again, my name is Melissa Maggiore with Alessi Bakeries, in Tampa Florida."
