"Hi! We're two wacky green guys. We like solar, wind turbine, hydro. We're here to talk about solar energy and how it benefits your home. Bruce, what's the most important thing about solar energy? Oh, you should know. Probably long life, long life is essential because it's a big investment and needs to last a lifetime. That's great! You know, not all solar energy systems are the same. You've got panel efficiency, converter efficiency, fixed home, roof mounted, ground mounted, tracking ground mounted. Every system is a little bit different and and a good energy auditor will be able to tell you exactly what their system will make before they install it so you know what the value of that system is once it's installed. That probably be the second most important part is the value over all. Many times solar will pay for itself in 5 years or even 10 years. A system that will cover its all of its cost in 10 years is the same as a bank investment or some kind of investment that has a 10% rate of return. The other thing to make sure of is, what kind of incentives are available? There's both a 30% federal tax credit that you can utilize and if you're a business that can become a tax grant and then those incentives based on what state you're in, and what your utility company is. Some incentives pay over time and they pay a lot for the kilowatt hours that you use and other incentives make a one time payment that covers somewhere between a quarter to half the cost of the system. So, you gotta really tap into these resources to make your investment work for you."
