"Beans, beans good for your heart. The more you eat, the more; oh no I'm not going there. I'm Jawara tghe Chef and I will show you how to cook dried beans. If you open up your beans; you want to take them out, put them on the plate, sort them out 'cause you don't want little stones or rocks in there. But sometimes they are in there. There are three ways you can cook beans. The first way; you can put them in the water and soak them overnight. Soaking the beans overnight will rehydrate the beans. The next day, just pour out your water and just give them a good rinse. Put them in the pot and add cold water. Put it on the stove; just add a pinch of salt; bring it to a boil; then let it simmer and it should be ready in about an hour. What if you don't have time for your beans to soak overnight? Then, you just take your dried beans, put them in the pot and put it right on the stove. Bring it to a boil for two minutes, turn off the heat and put a cover on it. Let the beans sit in the hot water for one hour. One hour is up; rinse your beans; back in the pot; more water; back on the stove to cook. Cooking time could range anywhere from hour and hour and a half, depends on what size your beans are. You don't want them overcooked and you don't want to get them mushy. The third way you can cook the beans without soaking them is just put them right in the water. Now if you do it that way now, you might have to use more water and you're going to stand there, have to keep putting water in the stuff and you're also going to use up more energy cooking them. Anyway you choose to cook your dried beans, they are still good for you. I'm Jawara Chef and that's how you cook your dried beans. That's what I'm talking about."
