Summary: Learn how to estimate materials for building a chest of drawers in this free DIY woodworking video.
"Hi this is Jon on behalf of Expert Village in this video clip we will estimating materials. I went ahead and laid out all of my components on my 3/4 sheet plywood that I'm going to buy. I'm going to put my right side and my left side in addition to my top and my bottom. I'm going to use 1/4" plywood for the back of my dresser in addition to 2 of my drawer bottoms. Since I can't get all my drawer bottoms out of my first sheet of plywood, I'm going to buy another sheet 1/4" plywood and get the remaining of my drawer bottoms out of it. Lastly I'm going to build my drawer sides out of 1/2" plywood and once I've laid them out I see that I only need 1 sheet of 1/2" plywood. Now these are the components that I'm going to need to build 1 dresser, since I'm building 3 I need to multiply that by 3 and adjust some of my pieces. I have drawn out here all the pieces that I'm going to need to build my chest of drawers, I was able to eliminate 1 of my sheets of 1/4" plywood by adding some more drawer bottoms to the other corner of it. However, I also had to add an additional sheet of 3/4" plywood because there's going to be a finished top that's going to go on top of the dresser. When I added all these up I will need 4 sheet of 3/4" plywood, 3 sheets of 1/2" plywood, 5 sheets of 1/4" plywood in addition I'm going to need several boards to cover all of my trim work, in addition to my drawer fronts."
