"I'm Mark Coy. This is a green ware piece and at the green ware stage, we have to be very careful with our pieces. We let them dry to a point where we are getting ready to fire them in their first dry fire where we bring them up in the kiln to about 500 degrees and get all of the molecular water out because molecular water turns into molecular steam and it will blow up or crack your pot. So we want to make sure we get that all out. We do need little clean up to get the goobers and things off. We use a tool to just scrape those things off of there and at this point though, you will notice that it still has kind of a clunky sound. Again, we have to be really careful with these. I tell my students to think of it as a potato chip because any pulling on the rims can breaks these pots. So they are very delicate at this point. A good time to cradle and cuddle your pot."
