"Now that I have my first layer of wool layed down , I'm going to put some additional layers on the top. I want to make sure that as I do my layers, especially if I'm working just with the roving, that I get lots of different orientations of my wool fibers. So I have a couple of different colors of roving here. I can pull these off in little fluffy puffs. The easiest way to do that, is by using the palm of my hand and with my fingers to grab a whole row and pull off a shingle, essentially of the wool fibers. Each individual fiber, you can see, is about 2-3 inches long and each of those is going to be a shingle. One of the tricks of working with the roving is you can't grab tightly too closely to the top or you're pulling on two ends of the same fiber and it won't pull out, so you have to relax your hand and hold a little bit farther back, away from where you are pulling the fibers out. Those should pull out very easily and smoothly. And in this case, I can even combine two colors and get a nice blended color effect. That gives you a lot more depth to your color. I can continue putting these on. You can see I'm changing the directions that I'm laying these things on. So I get a lot of different crisscrossing layers. This will help my felt, get a nice smooth felt when we get to the folding out process."
