"The pattern I'm going to talk to you about now is the basket weave. And when you look at this piece of course you see it's woven in and out like a basket. Which is of course why I call it that. Now what we have here are, of course since this is a crochet and we work with one needle and one yarn, each of this is just done in rows. And you'll see the way we work the pattern is as we're going along in the row we either bend it forwards or backwards to create either the up or the down part to make it look like a basket weave. Now before you start this pattern be very aware this eats a lot of yarn. So if you're going to do anything in a basket weave make sure you plan ahead for it. If you're making a blanket or a scarf or whatever you make. Make sure you buy two to three times as much yarn as you would as if you were doing just a standard flat double crochet or single crochet pattern. This takes a lot of yarn. This is quite thick and quite stiff, depending on how heavy your yarn is, just because of the overlapping that's involved in this pattern. There is a lot of yarn in this. I cannot stress that enough. So make sure that you plan ahead, of course, in any crochet project. But especially in this because if you shop at any hobby store colors get discontinued and you can really mess up your project that way so make sure you plan ahead and buy enough yarn. This uses a lot of yarn. But it's really easy but it does take a long time. So this is actually the beginnings of a baby blanket that I'm working on. And you see I have not gotten far. And this was one whole thing of yarn. I used a lot. So just make sure you plan ahead just as you would with any crochet project. I'm going to show you how it's done."
