"Before we get started on the granny square we are going to talk about its different levels and how it works. What we have here is the first level of the granny square and you can see it is just a tiny little square with the hole in the middle and it somewhat looks like a cross because it has only got four intersections and you can see the corner, over here it is four corners, and of course the yarn and the border all the way around the edge. This is the first level and here we have level two and you can see the cross kind of stands out a bit more in the middle. These are our original four corners right here but on the second level what you do is you build into these original corners and you create a new one so we have two stacks in each corner and then we add a corner and then we skip so we can make this nice fanned out effect, that is what makes the granny square what it is. You just build two stacks in each corner and create a new corner. That's level two and this is the third level. I usually don't go much further than this but you can if you want to. This is how I usually like my granny squares to be. We have our first level, level, two and then with our outside level you have a group in between each hole, that is what the granny square is, you have groups of threads in the hole and then you create each new corner, there is a hole, group, hole, group, hole and you just keep expanding this as big as you like to but I like to keep it right here at this level and this is all that it is inside of a granny square."
