"On behalf of Expert Village, I'm Terry, and I'm here to tell you today about building a wrought iron fence. Before you start any project, it's always helpful to know what your codes are for the city or the county, whatever the governing body is, what your specifications are, your permit cost, your materials cost. Before you can get started, in most states and counties and cities you have to get approved with a permit, with a building inspector so he knows what type of construction going to go on, whether it's going to be installed safely, and whether it adheres to their codes or not. In most cases, on residential and commercial, in our state that we live in, outdoor rail is forty-six inches, indoor rail is thirty-eight inches, the minimum being thirty-four on indoor and forty-four on outdoor. The reason for that being is usually always because of toddlers and children who like to climb or poke their head or their hands through things, so the reason for that is mainly safety. It's not really just to keep everything uniformed, like a lot of codes do, it's mainly for safety. "
