How to Prepare a Room For Painting

"Hello my name is Grady Johnson and I'm a professional painter and today I represent ExpertVillage.com. Now we're ready to paint the interior of our room and before we do anything we need to drop this room off and to do that we're going to have to move some furniture. Now remember whenever you're moving furniture always move with your legs. And that's just a matter of bending your knees a little bit. That's whether you’re picking something up or scooting something across, always keep those knees bent and you shouldn't run into any problem. You can really hurt yourself and cause damage if you're not careful. A few tips that'll work for you. You'll see here there's a little bit of clutter on this particular hutch that I'm going to move right now. So I want to move everything back and see what's going to fall out whenever I move it. Once you have that done you can see this area is clean, then take a look at the top. Now the top is very different. When you're working with the top of an item, it's got to be completely cleared off because that's where we are going to put the drop cloth. So I'm going to take this item off the top, look and see if there is anything else, I'm good. So instead of moving this out, I got a little room so I'm going to tuck this right in here, ordinarily if there was alot of stuff I'd just move it out of the room. So what you want to do is you want to grab and feel a weight. This thing is kind of heavy so what I'm going to do is walk it. I'm going to get my hand up here and I'm going to pull this bottom right over. Once you have this end out go ahead and bring the other end out as well. Now that I've got that even I'm going to walk this side out too. And this is how we walk it, little by little, into the middle of the room. I have another hutch over here and a couple of items over here that I'm going to move to the middle of the room as well. Then I'm going to cover that with my drop cloth and completely drop off this room and this is how you move furniture to prepare for interior painting. "
