Summary: Learn how to carve out the lid of a pumpkin in this free pumpkin carving video.
"Hello, I'm Matt Cail and on behalf of Expert Village, I'm going to show you how to creatively carve a pumpkin. For creative pumpkin, the top of the pumpkin is a great place to start and traditionally it's where you start doing any type of carving; carving and taking out the top, and of course, gutting your pumpkin. So we are going to cover the basic process of how we are going to handle most of the carving today. And that is first off, to take your black pen and your pumpkin which now has a nice clean surface and then we are going to start drawing in some lines. What are we going to avoid? We are going to avoid general circles and straight lines. Those are the enemies. We are going to try to get away from those two shapes as much as possible. So instead of just doing a circle around here and cutting it, I'm going to put some different planes, and swoops and valleys and crests around here to make it a little more interesting, like so. Now, when I start cutting here...what I'm going to do, is at first, I'm probably going to have a little bit more straight edged cuts (you know, some easy triangles). Just keep inside the black lines, that's the key thing. So I'm going to try to do as many cuts like that as possible, because that's easier. And then, after I'm done with that, we are going to take our carving tool or our smaller knives and we are going to kind of like, then cut out the areas to follow this black line....going just outside of it so we don't have any marker left on our pumpkin.
