"Hello, my name is Matt Cail on behalf of expertvillage.com, I'm here today to talk about trick or treating safety. So it's the end of another successful Halloween and you have the best haul of them all, you're ready to dig into the candy and chow down. But before you do, there's one last thing that needs to happen, you need to have mom and dad or Uncle Harvey if he's still along, check the candy. This can happen in a number of ways. The most feel safe way is to go to a local hospital. Often times local hospitals will offer free x-raying services on Halloween, it's hard to imagine it but there are still some people out there who may try to mess with candy. Either putting nasty things in it or even worse dangerous objects that will not be fun to bit into. You go to a hospital if for any reason you're paranoid, especially if there's a piece of candy the child really wants, my goodness, it's homemade and really nice and you want to make sure it's okay, go to a local hospital. Odds are they will offer a free x-raying service, even better yet, call ahead to see what the local services that are available in your area. In addition to going to the hospital, there are many other basic things you can do to check out the candy. Look at the wrappers, if you see any signs of tampering, a wrapper has been ripped, there's a strange hole in it, or it even looks like its been resealed, when in doubt toss out the candy. On average you're only going to see maybe one or out of every ten to twenty pieces will be in any way suspect. Other things to look for is if there's any strange odors coming from the candy, or if it's even something you cannot identify or where your child got the candy, those are all signs of throw the candy away. When in doubt toss it away, your child is going to have plenty of candy in which to enjoy anyway."
