I’m Gene West, and this is how to layer a curtain with a sheer curtain. The trick to layering any curtains is the double curtain rod. But, there are many double curtain rod applications to choose from. Conventional double curtain rods are the most affordable, but the least decorative, since the curtains are designed to cover the entire rod. Decorative double curtain rods are the most affordable, since they come in dozens of colors with decorative finials on either end. Layering curtains is easy and affordable, especially with today’s pre-packaged products. Here, I have an example of layered curtains. As you can see, I have panels layered over sheer curtains installed on an inexpensive double curtain rod. If your curtains are to be installed in fixed position, you will only need to use one sheer panel positioned in the center of the two outer panels. This way, you’ll save some money. Remember, when installing heavy-layer treatments, the weight of the rods could pull the rod brackets off the wall. So, be sure to use mollies or find the wood studs behind the wall to install your brackets. The reason why you would want to use sheers layered under your panels is that it will soften the sunlight coming through the rooms, as well as creating a sense of privacy – especially in the evening when the lights are on. Nobody will be able to see in. Soften the mood, and cover your windows.
