I'm Gene West and this is how to hang a curtain rod to make a window look larger. By installing a large curtain rod over a small window, you can sometimes create the illusion that the window is actually larger than it is sometimes making the room look larger as well. Determine how large you want your window to appear. Then mark the center line of the window, measure out equally from the mark to the left and right sides, measure equal distance down from the ceiling to create a plumb line. Mark where your brackets are to be installed, drill your holes, install your brackets and hang your treatments. For proper fullness, your fabric should measure two to three times the window width or the area that you are looking to cover. Now that I've installed my curtain rod window treatments, my window appears much larger, much wider than it actually is. But as I fold back the fabric, you can clearly see it's not.
