Hi, my name’s Steven Lee. And, I’m going to talk to you about preserving new tie-dyed clothing. Now, if you bought a tie-dye from an unfamiliar source, when you get it home, what you should do is wash it. And, I would wash it in my washing machine with cold water and normal laundry soap. And, while you’re washing it, look inside the machine to see if the fabric’s bleeding. If the fabric’s bleeding, then what you should do is to wash the fabric as many times as you need to, over and over, until the fabric stops bleeding. If you’ve tie-dyed yourself, then use reactive-type dyes, and use soda ash to set the dye. And then, you don’t have to worry about preserving the tie-dye, because the dye will be permanent. All you have to do there is, once you’ve dyed the fabric, then wash out the loose dye that didn’t fix to the fabric. Then, no more dye will come off the fabric. Use the proper dye, and your tie-dye clothing will last for years to come.
