Hi, I'm Coleen Christian Burke and we are going to talk about how to donate used Christmas ornaments and decorations to charity. Christmas items are most welcome at two times of the year, in the Fall as thrift stores and churches prepare their inventory for their December sales and in late Spring as charities prepare for Christmas in July sales. The rule of thumb is to group like objects together and if you have time bagging or boxing them is very helpful. I have a bag of handmade ornaments grouped together and a box of glass ornaments. Grouping things makes it easier for the volunteers who ultimately have to price them. If you are donating a breakable item, make sure to wrap it in newspaper so it is protected. Finally, check with the charity to see if they accept large items like artificial trees. Some have the room and some just don't.
