Hi, I'm Coleen Christian Burke, and I'm going to show you how to make Christmas trees using plastic spoons. I'm using white spoons because I wanted the tree to be very modern looking, but you can use all red or all green, just keep it to one color. You will need a Styrofoam cone, plastic spoons, wire cutters and a hot glue gun set on low. This 15-inch cone requires approximately 80 spoons, and the 9-inch cone about 70 or so. To begin, take your wire cutters and cut the spoons at the neck. This spoon tree is really like a puzzle, so make two different cuts, one with a longer neck, and one cut closer to the base of the spoon. You're going to need both shapes. Every so often you will get a spoon that cuts perfectly. Put those off to the side because you will need a few with clean cuts to put at the top of your tree. To start the tree assembly, select three spoons with long necks and push them into the very top of your tree. Now, and this is important, start covering your cone from the bottom up. Finish each ring of spoon completely before you move up the cone. On the very last row, grab those spoons with the clean cuts to finish it off. So if you want to update your holiday decorating, give spoon trees a try.
