Hi, my name is Autumn Wintersgill. And today, we're going to talk about how to taper a knit hat. After you've knitted the body of your hat and you want to decrease to make the crown. You'll just take the number of stitches you have and divide by five. So, then you're going to knit five and knit two together, all the way around. On the next round just knit it even, just knitting every stitch like this. Knitting each stitch and then, knitting two together like that. Knitting five and knitting two together. After you have knit five, knit two together, and knit one round even, continue by knitting four and knitting two together. Knitting one round even, then knit three, knit two together. Until you have about eight stitches all the way around your hat. Then you'll take a yarn needle and you're just going to go through the top of all your stitches. And those will be lie stitches. And then, you'll pull them altogether, you'll just thread your needle through on the inside. Continue closing up all those stitches by going through all of them and pulling tight. So that it closes up the top of the hat.
