Hi, I'm Lia Griffith, and I'm going to talk about the guidelines of hanging curtain panels. Believe it or not, where you hang your curtains will make your windows look smaller or bigger. One of the biggest mistakes people will make is they will hang their curtain rod right on the window molding. What this does is it closes the window down and covers even when the curtains are open. The rule of thumb is to hang the rod two or three inches outside of the window molding. You can hang them as high as you want to. For me I like to hang them all the way to the ceiling because it honestly makes the room seem taller. As for the length of the curtain, you'll want to at least touch the floor or you can puddle the curtains onto the floor.
