Hi, I'm Heather Klar. Can you hem selvage jeans. Selvage jeans refers actually to the fabric, the kind of denim that's being used in the jeans. So a jean finished hem is a standard hem on this kind of jean. I'll show you how. Hemming selvage edged jeans is exactly the same as hemming normal jeans. The only difference is the selvage jean it pertains more into the jean itself was cut. But it's really not a big difference. It's just a certain kind of denim. And it's a certain way of processing the denim. But it really is the same thing. Just for fun the selvage is the lengthwise edge of the fabric. So on a bolt you know it's a nine yards on a bolt. The whole nine yards, that's where the phrase comes from. The selvage edge runs along the length of the fabric. And it's how it was set up on the loom. So the threads going across are the weft. And the threads going vertically parallel the selvage or the warp. And so when you are cutting fabric for garments normally you want the selvage to run the lengthwise of the body. The parallel, the vertical because you want a little bit of give which you have with your weft threads to go across the body. And so to hem the jeans you hem them just as normal jeans.
