Hi, I'm Beth from the Village Art Project Ceramics Studio, and today we're going to make some inexpensive home made pottery. So you're going to want to get some clay that hardens in your oven, that you can get at most of the local craft stores. And a good thing to start with is making a bowl, you're going to start by taking your piece of clay and just start to pound it into a ball and from there we're going to make a pinch pot and a pinch pot is made exactly how it sounds. You're going to first just put a hole in the center and then start pinching it between your fingers while you turn it. And as you pinch it you can kind of widen it out a little bit and there is the beginnings of your bowl. You can kind of pick it up and start to form it with your hands and you want to get the walls maybe about a quarter of an inch thick, you wouldn't want to go much thinner than that. If your clay starts to dry out you can just get some water and a sponge and dab a little bit on and smooth it out, add some water to it. And then once you get your bowl formed, how smooth it is, is really up to you, you can leave it kind of bumpy so that it shows your finger prints or really take a sponge with a little bit of water or just use your fingers and really smooth it out and get a really smooth, smooth result. So with this shape if you went a little bit taller you could add a handle and make a cup or just get taller and make pencil holders, all sorts of things. So you're going put it in your oven and follow the directions on your clay that you bought and then you will have your own home made pottery. You can paint it and here are some finished ones that have been painted and this is also a pinch pot made the same way as this. So that's how you can make inexpensive pottery at home. I'm Beth from the Village Art Project. Thanks for watching.
