Hi I'm Susan Southerland, national wedding expert for perfectweddingguide.com and president of justmarried.com. Today we're going to chat a little bit about the food you serve at your wedding reception. When it comes to dining at your wedding reception you have a couple of really great options. The first is a sit down or plated meal. And the second is a station or buffet reception. And there are pros and cons to both types of receptions. Lets start first with a plated meal. What's really great about a plated meal is that you control your cost very nicely. Because the person who's serving your meal knows specifically the portions he'll be serving to each of your guests. So there's very little food waste, and also you get the opportunity to have a beautiful presentation on a plate. So that can be very exciting and part of the overall ambiance and decor of the wedding. On the flip side, if you have a lot of people with dietary restrictions or food allergies, you're going to have to pay careful attention to how you order your meals and what food is being served. Now the next option would be a buffet or station style reception. And this can be a little less formal because guests get to walk around and choose their own food. However, this can be a more costly prospect for you, because the place that's serving the food has to over prepare. So there can be a lot of waste. They have to be prepared in case one of your guests decides to take multiple servings of a particular item. On the upside you can plan your buffet and your stations around people's dietary restrictions. So have some things that are vegetarian and some things with no lactose. Just be careful to label each of those food items so your guests know what's safe for them to eat. Now having that station reception also allows you to come up with all sorts of creative food ideas because you're not limited to one item. So get imaginative. Plan things around maybe places that you've traveled or your favorite types of food. Your guests will really enjoy it.
