The Best Places to Get Married in the United States

As of 2010, over 2 million weddings take place in the United States each year. The United States is home to a number of premier wedding venues, many of which offer exceptional seasonal venues such as New York’s Central Park or Florida’s Amelia Island. Other venues, such as those found in Las Vegas, offer everything from traditional wedding services to niche weddings such as Elvis-Presley-themed services at Graceland Wedding Chapel.

New York's Central Park

  • A favorite for weddings in any season, New York’s 843-acre Central Park is one of the most beloved wedding destinations in the United States. Home to a number of iconic New York locations such as the Shakespeare Garden and Strawberry Fields, Central Park offers a variety of romantic options, such as the Central Park Conservancy Garden. A 6-acre garden composed of smaller gardens, all with their own charm and featuring beautiful and extensive flower displays, shrubs, and trees, the Conservancy Garden is ideal for wedding ceremonies, especially in the spring and late autumn. Another popular wedding destination is the Loeb Boathouse, located at the east end of the 18-acre Central Park Lake. Built in the 1950s, the boathouse offers beautifully ornate wooden dining areas enclosed in glass, as well as seasonal terraces, all overlooking the lake. Both venues cater to weddings by offering photography services, and the park even encourages wedding parties to add their own photos to the collective album located in the permit office.

Las Vegas, Nevada

  • Home to the infamous Elvis and Priscilla Presley wedding in 1967, the Nevada city of Las Vegas is a premiere destination for weddings in the United States. Las Vegas has been called the Marriage Capital of the World and hosts over 100,000 weddings per year. Over 50 different wedding chapels lie throughout the city, with a large number of chapels located on the Las Vegas Strip and in the area near the wedding bureau commonly known as the Wedding District. Two of the most popular chapels are the Graceland Wedding Chapel and the Little Church of the West Wedding Chapel. Graceland Wedding Chapel has stood in the same location for over 50 years and is a full-service wedding facility known as the first to employ Elvis Presley impersonators, while the Little Church of the West Wedding Chapel is a quaint wooden church listed on the National Register of Historic Places. One of the oldest existing structures on the Strip, the chapel was built in 1942 and has hosted the weddings of Judy Garland, Betty Grable and Richard Gere.

Amelia Island, Florida

  • Located off the coast of Florida, Amelia Island is quickly becoming a hot spot for weddings, attracting couples from around the world with its old-world charm and incredible natural surroundings. One of the favorite wedding venues is the Amelia Island Plantation, a 1,350-acre plantation nestled among centuries-old oak trees, with an amazing view of the Atlantic ocean. The resort’s Walker’s Landing venue is hidden among natural sea marshes and is home to exotic birds and wild flowers, as well as an Indian burial ground and an old Spanish mission. The resort also includes lavish ballrooms, a beach house, a sunrise terrace and a sandcastle deck perfect for hosting receptions. The Amelia Island Plantation also boasts an on-site interdenominational chapel. The surrounding island offers a wealth of history and aesthetic charm. Fernandina Beach’s historic district hosts over 400 Victorian structures on the National Register of Historic Places, as well as a number of romantic activities such as scenic narrated horse-drawn carriage rides through the historic district or sightseeing at Amelia Island Lighthouse.
