The cocoa mix in your pantry can do more than provide a cup of hot cocoa to warm you on a cold, dreary day. Utilize this powdered mixture to make cool, chocolaty treats in the summer, create chocolate garnishes for your bakery items, flavor bake goods or enhance your cocktails year around.

Chocolate Frosting

  • If you want to make sweet, chocolaty frosting for your cakes, cupcakes or muffins, look no further than the hot cocoa mix in your pantry. Mix 8 tbsp. of hot cocoa mix with 1 tbsp. of hot water in a bowl. To give extra sweetness to your frosting, add powdered sugar to the mixture until it suits your taste. If your frosting comes out too thin, continue to add 1 tsp. of cocoa mix until it reaches your ideal consistency. If your frosting comes out too thick, continue to add 1 tsp. of water until it thins. Next, spread on any dessert that you wish.

Chocolate Glaze

  • Use hot cocoa mix to make a chocolate glaze for your cakes and donuts. Combine 1/4 cup hot milk and 1 tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder in a medium-sized bowl. Whisk the ingredients together until the unsweetened cocoa dissolves. Next, add 2 cups of sifted powered sugar and 1/3 cup hot cocoa mix. Continue to whisk until the glaze becomes glossy and smooth. If your glaze comes out too thick, add milk until you reach the desired consistency. Finally, glaze your bake goods.

Cocoa Mix Popsicles

  • Your cocoa mix can also provide a cool, sweet treat on a hot summer day. Dissolve one envelope of hot cocoa mix in 3/4 cup hot milk. If you want extra creamy chocolate Popsicles, use 3/4 cup of hot cream. Allow the hot cocoa mixture to cool. Next, divide the mixture between three 2 oz. Popsicle molds, insert Popsicle sticks and freeze.

Chocolaty Peanut Butter-Oatmeal Cookies

  • Hot cocoa mix adds a chocolaty taste to your peanut butter-oatmeal cookies. Preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Combine 1/2 cup milk with one envelope hot cocoa mix in a large bowl. Add 2 cups of granulated sugar, 1 1/2 cups of creamy peanut butter and 1 cup quick oats and combine. Mold the dough into 1-inch balls then place them on a greased cookie sheet. Bake for 15 minutes. Allow the cookies to cool before serving.

Chocolate Rimmed Cocktails

  • Give your flavored cocktail a hint of chocolate by adding cocoa mix to the rim of your martini glass. Pour an envelope of cocoa mix into a bowl. Before pouring your drink, moisten the rim of your glass with water. Dunk the rim into the bowl of cocoa mix. Pour your drink. Cocoa mix rims compliment chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and raspberry mixed drinks.
