The bathroom can be the sticky wicket of home decorating. After all, it is so many things to so many people--respite, place of repose, reading spot and, of course, site for daily ablutions. As it is also used throughout the day, its decor must be suitable to shifting moods and attitudes. Towels can be used as a decorating accessory to lift a dull space or ground exuberant color.
Cream-colored towels suggest the purity, cleanliness and innocence invoked by white, without the stark chill of absolute white. Cream towels can be a potent element of a monochromatic scheme, with bone marble flooring and sinks and blonde wood cabinetry. They can act as a foil for energetic bathroom color schemes of vermilion, muted orange or gold. They can also provide poetic contrast to midnight blue tiling with concrete floors and slate sinks and countertops.
The color depth of midnight blue makes it an excellent choice for the bathroom. Midnight blue towels can comprise the deep end of a monochromatic blue scheme, accompanied by royal blue tiling and powder blue ceramic sinks and tub. Alternatively, use midnight blue towels as accent: to contrast with beige granite floors and golden oak shelves and cabinets, or to ground an aquatic scheme of sky-blue walls, blue-green print shower and window curtains, and seafoam tub and tile.
Cherry red towels can prove a source of cheer in an otherwise dreary bath environment. In a bath cloaked in gray or absolute white, cherry towels can introduce energy, attitude and a sense of play. Against soothing baby-pink walls with ballet pink tub and tiling, they can add bold energy and whimsy. An ultramodern design of black marble sinks and shower with charcoal stone tile flooring is instantly invigorated with the placement of cherry towels and bathmats.
Bring "Joy, happiness, optimism..." (symbolized by yellow, according to Incredible Art Department) to the bath with the simple addition of yellow towels. In a scheme of ivory granite, eggshell tiling, and blonde wood flooring, yellow towels help unify yellow undertones. They can also freshen (and distract the observer from) the tired look of an older bathroom that boasts outdated floor tile and bland ceramic sink and tub, proving useful if you cannot renovate the bath until later.
Pink informed with brown, dusty rose is both soothing (an effect of pink, according to the website Sensational Color) and stabilizing (a quality of brown, as stated at the website Precision InterMedia). No wonder it is such a popular bathroom decorating choice. Use towels of dusty rose to complement shell-pink walls and pastel pink ceramic sinks. Or try them to enliven dark-gray flooring, tub and tile. Dusty rose towels can feminize a chocolate-caramel-oatmeal bathroom scheme, and can lift and soften antique white flooring, tubs and sinks.
