Stainless Steel Sink Cleaning Products

If your stainless steel sink always looks smudged, finding the right stainless steel cleaning product can help make your sink shine. Stainless steel is a classic and long-lasting sink option, but due to the glossy finish, fingerprints, grease and smudges of any sort tend to be noticable. Solve your problem by finding the right stainless steel cleaning product for your dirt and grime.

Water

  • According to the Stainless Steel Association, start with water. Use a simple damp cotton or fiber cloth rag to wipe down the area before moving on to tougher products. Due to stainless steel's natural properties, a quick wipe will often do the trick.

Vinegar

  • If water does not do it, try a natural disinfectant and cleaning agent. Mix 1 cup of vinegar with 1 cup of water, and put it in a spray bottle. Spray your stainless steel sink with the mixture and wipe it down. Vinegar will typically remove smudges and keep your sink streak free, but it may not remove built-up grease.

Glass Cleaner

  • For a quick stainless steel cleaning fix, use glass cleaner. Whether you have a natural glass cleaner or the traditional sort, most glass cleaners will cut through grease and bring back a shine to your stainless steel. Spray some into your sink and wipe down the area with a damp cloth, but be aware most glass cleaners do not have disinfectant or germ-killing properties.

Mild Detergents

  • For a super deep clean, mix a mild detergent, like your dish soap, with water and scrub away. As you clean, go over your sink a second time with a clean damp cloth to remove any soap residue that might stick to the sink. If your sink is especially dirty, fill the sink with soap and water and let the water sit, like you would in a dirty pan. Come back, rinse the sink out and soap it down again.

Stainless Steel Cleaners

  • If basic cleaners don't work, pick up a special stainless steel cleaner from your local grocery or retail store. Most stainless steel cleaners come in either wipe or spray liquid form. Wipe it down or spray some on to get a shiny clean sink.
