Hawaiian Bridal Shower Games

Hawaiian-themed bridal showers are perfect when the newlywed couple is planning a tropical honeymoon. The invitations, decorations, and food are easy to decide on, but finding appropriate and entertaining games with an Hawaiian theme may be more challenging. Adapting a variety of party games to fit your Hawaiian theme can be a solution.

  1. Tie a Sarong

    • Native, traditional Hawaiians, along with other cultures of the South Pacific, often wear colorful sarongs. Sarongs are a piece of fabric, usually 5-7 feet long, that is artfully wrapped, twisted and tied around the body. Men will wear them around the waist, while a woman will form a dress with the fabric. No pins, clips or other aids are used to complete the dress. For your Hawaiian shower, give each guest a piece of Hawaiian or tropical printed fabric that is around two yards long, or purchase sarongs. Tell them they have 10 minutes, or however long you feel is reasonable, to fashion a sarong dress from the fabric, again, using nothing but the fabric. At the end, have a fashion show where each guest models their creation. The best dress, and the one that stays on the wearer, wins a prize. Let the guests keep the Hawaiian sarong fabric as part of your favors. Print out instructions on the correct way to fashion a sarong dress for each guest to take home.

    Island Trivia

    • Island trivia is a great game, particularly if the bride and groom are planning a Hawaiian honeymoon. Research interesting facts about the Islands or the specific location of the honeymoon for the trivia questions. Some good trivia questions can be about the beaches, how many, how big, any beaches that host well known surfing competitions, or various tourist attractions, like parks, museums, hiking trails, or famous locations. Trivia about Hawaiian history, individual Islands, and the Hawaiian volcanoes can also be used.

    Hula Dancing

    • Have your shower guests get into the spirit of Hawaii by teaching them to hula dance. You can purchase hula skirts for your guests or make them using large drawstring trash bags that you cut the bottom out and cut the sides into slits 2 to 3 inches wide. Your guests can slip these grass skirts on over their outfits and use the drawstring to tighten it around their waist. Do not forget to hand out a lei or two to each hula dancer.

Or, hire a hula dancer to teach a few basic hula dances like "I want to go back to my little grass shack," or rent a video/DVD that instructs hula dancing that you play while everyone participates. Of course, Hawaiian music will be playing in the background, or have a karaoke machine available for guests to serenade the dancers.
