Incorporate your child's love of teddy bears into his birthday party with a celebration at Build-a-Bear. Build-a-Bear is a shop catering to stuffed-animal lovers throughout the United States. They developed a process of allowing a customer to stuff, clean and dress a plush animal of her choice. Build-a-Bear hosts make-your-own-bear parties for children.
Build-a-Bear prohibits decorations and food in their shops. There are four locations offering a private party room, pre-decorated with Build-a-Bear themed décor; the other stores host parties right in the store, and provides discounts and coupons with partnered food locations in the mall. Build-a-Bear provides party favors, but does not allow birthday gifting in the store.
Build-a-Bear employees entertain your guests with party games and songs. In addition to these activities, each guest selects an animal to be stuffed. Each child leaves with a custom-made "stuffy" they made themselves. When all the guests have made their animals and the games and songs are over, it's time to move the entire party.
Use stuffed bears as centerpieces for each table, and tie bear-shaped balloons to them with curling ribbon. Party supply stores sell Build-a-Bear themed tableware; use these themed items to decorate the table along with some fabric printed with teddy bears for a tablecloth.
Make teddy-bear covering for the chairs. Gather flannel material in various hues, velvet ribbons, sewing needle, polyester fill, colored felt scrapes and craft glue. Drape the flannel over the chairs and secure with a velvet ribbon. Take the extra flannel material to make a bear head, arms and ears. Stuff the head, arms and ears with the polyester fill. Glue pieces of felt onto the head for eyes, mouth and nose. Attach the ears to the head and the head and arms to the fabric draped over the chair with the sewing needle. Hang teddy bear posters or pictures on the walls to create atmosphere.
Bear shaped pancakes will be a hit with kids of all ages. Serve tea and scones or muffins accompanied by honey and jam for adults attending the party. If the party is in the afternoon, serve homemade "bear" pizza. Cut the meat topping on the pizza to resemble teddy-bear heads. Make sandwiches and use bear-shaped cookie cutters to tie in the party theme. Display the food on plastic platters decorated with teddy-bear stickers. Decorate cupcakes with teddy-bear toys and jewelry. Have an ice-cream cake decorated with teddy bears.
Find bear-shaped favor bags at a party store. Fill the bags with extra Build-a-Bear clothes and accessories, gift cards to Build-a-Bear, miniature stuffed animals, gummy bears, bear stickers and teddy grahams.
