It is not difficult to create a craft from a birdcage.

Whether you are the previous owner of a feathered friend or just enjoy the look of decorative birdcages, you can find many ways to embellish them to add to the décor of your home. Birdcages come in many types of materials and shapes. You can find birdcages inexpensively at garage sales, thrift stores and estate sales to adorn with craft items to enhance the style of your home. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Victorian Style Birdcage

    • Adorn a white or fragile looking birdcage with a wide pink bow at the top. Allow the ribbon streamers to flow down the sides of the cage. Line the bottom of the clean cage with sphagnum moss, decorative silk ivy or other greenery. Stand a Victorian doll, an antique teacup and saucer or tall white, gold or silver pillar candle on the moss or greenery and weave pearl garlands around the base of the centerpiece to enhance the Victorian theme.

    Christmas Ornament Birdcage

    • Fill a small birdcage with Christmas ornaments that coordinate with your tree and other holiday decor. You may choose ornaments in burgundy and gold, the traditional colors of red and green or other color schemes. Adorn the top or door of the birdcage with a beautiful ribbon bow in a coordinating shade.

    Candleholder

    • You can make a birdcage into a decorative candleholder to match the accent colors in your home. Simply select a few coordinating pillar candles in different heights and colors. Stand them in the bottom of the cage on a square or rectangle candleholder base if you desire. Make sure that the birdcage is at least six inches taller than the height of the tallest candle and made from metal to prevent a fire hazard.

    Floral Birdcage

    • Place a vase of flowers in your birdcage to create an unusual floral display. This will make a lovely centerpiece for your dining room table or an occasional table. If you want to use your craft making skills, fill it with different varieties of silk flowers in tiny vases or create a flower arrangement using floral foam as the base and surround it with moss or silk greenery. Purchase faux dragonflies, birds, butterflies and ribbon adornments to embellish it further. This birdcage will add a fresh, springtime appeal to your home.
