French Country & Garden Party Wedding Ideas

French country is a popular style of interior decorating. Adding French country flair to your garden wedding decor gives the occasion a pleasing ambiance and recognizably romantic touch. Create a wedding design style for your guests to remember by creating rustic floral arrangements reminiscent of a Victorian-era chateau and serving authentic French fare such as a toffee ganache wedding cake.

Furniture

  • Remember that the French countryside is expected to be a place of relaxation and refuge. Thus, furnishings and decor should follow suit. Select comfortable furniture for your wedding design. Furniture that works both indoors and out is important to maintaining your garden party look. A wrought iron bench with fleur de lis pillow cushions is a nice touch that can be easily moved where needed. Your benches can stand alone as seating for your reception or be placed under garden tables covered in white lace as seating in the reception area.

Accessorizing

  • Soften your French country garden wedding with bright sunflowers, lavender and baby's breath floral arrangements. Place each arrangement in an urn, and set the urns on reception tables. On each side of the floral arrangement, add a ceramic farm-life figurine. A crowing rooster is a popular choice and blends the garden theme with the French country style. At the ends of your wrought iron chairs or benches, tie large satin ribbons in purple and yellow pastel colors.

French Reception

  • "It's an old French custom for the couple to drink their reception toasts from an engraved, two-handled cup called the 'coupe de mariage.' They then save the cup to pass on to their children," says theknot.com. For your guests, arrange for a variety of wines for sampling. For a wedding cocktail reception, plan a French-themed station of quiche, pate, brie and crackers, escargot and crepes for dessert. Provide assorted breads with whipped sweet cream butter as a side item.

Wedding Cake

  • Your wedding cake should blend together the varying styles and colors chosen for your wedding. Keep the look of your cake classic, but don't overlook the importance of intricate details. Popular French wedding cake flavors include: croque em bouche cake, fondant iced cake, toffee ganache and triple-chocolate cake. Accent your wedding cake with soft garden flowers atop a rustic serving platter.
