Harvest Hat Decorating Ideas

Create festive harvest decor using straw hats. Straw hats have a rustic country-inspired flair that complements an autumn decor scheme. Decorate hats to create customized decorations for your home and yard. Turn a plain inexpensive straw hat into an instant centerpiece or door hanging using a few fall-inspired craft items.

Ribbon-enhanced Hat

  • Decorate a straw hat with decorative ribbon. Use a hot glue gun to attach a wide autumn-inspired ribbon around the base of the hat. Choose an orange or brown grosgrain ribbon featuring pumpkin or leaf designs. You also can attach the ribbon by tying the ends into a bow. Hang the hat in any room as festive wall decor.

Autumn Flower Hat

  • Enhance a harvest-inspired straw hat with autumn flowers. Choose silk or dried richly-colored autumn flowers such as mums, carnations and dianthus. Glue the flower heads all around the brim of the hat or simply attach a large bloom. Hang the floral hat on your front door to greet guests.

Festive Hat Centerpiece

  • Use a decorated straw hat as a Thanksgiving table centerpiece. Turn the hat upside down and fill with an assortment of autumn decor items. Choose assorted yellow, green and orange mini-gourds. Burgundy-hued Indian corn will add a pop of color to the table. Fill the hat with hay and small pumpkins or apples. Place the decorated hat in the center of the table and surround with deep red, orange, gold and brown candles.

Pumpkin Head

  • Embellish a Halloween jack-o-lantern with a straw hat. Draw a jack-o-lantern face on a large pumpkin using a permanent black marker or acrylic craft paint. You also can use hot glue to attach large plastic googly eyes. Top the pumpkin face with a rustic-looking straw hat. Tie a bandanna around the bottom of the pumpkin as a scarf. Place the pumpkin on your front steps or porch or in a garden.
