St. Patrick’s Day is a holiday where you can go casual or formal, but green is almost certainly required. Dressing up is part of the fun of the holiday. When you plan your outfit, take into consideration where you will be and what you will be comfortable wearing. What you wear is your chance to express your Irish pride or simply just participate in the festivities.
Appropriate for men or women, although in different variations, a leprechaun costume can be an option for those who prefer to dress up for the holiday. Leprechaun costumes come with either pants or a skirt. There will also usually be white stockings, a green top hat, a green jacket and buckled shoes. The main color of the costume is green; however, there may also be white, gold or black mixed in as well. As an extra accessory, consider carrying a small black pot filled with gold chocolate coins.
Green Dress With Shamrock Details
For the woman who wants to wear a green dress but feels it needs a little extra something special, consider using shamrock fabric to dress up the outfit. Use a piece of the fabric to wrap around your waist and tie it in a bow. Another option is to create a headband by folding the fabric into a rectangle shape, placing it on the top of your head then tying it in a bow underneath the hair.
Patterned Pants and Themed Shirt
St. Patrick’s Day themed pants, such as those that have pots of gold or shamrocks on them can be a fun, festive way to dress for the holiday. The pants come in several types of material and are appropriate for both men and women. Pair the pants with a green Irish or St. Patrick’s Day themed T-shirt to show the holiday spirit. Pair the outfit with green sneakers or shoes decorated with shamrocks.
Irish Dancer Dress
For a festive change from wearing a regular dress, consider wearing an Irish step dancer dress. The dress is short, has long sleeves and is quite elaborate. Wear white socks paired with hard or soft black shoes depending on your comfort level. A final touch is to curl your hair. You can purchase a costume from a costume shop, buy an actual Irish step dancer dress or make one yourself.
Jewelry and Accessories
Makeup and accessories complete an outfit, even if all you choose to wear is a white T-shirt and a pair of jeans. For your hair, consider green barrettes, hair gems, headbands or even using green hairspray to temporarily color your hair.
Accessories can include St. Patrick’s Day pins and bracelets. Another inexpensive option to consider is green St. Patrick’s Day themed beads to use as a necklace.
