50th Anniversary Card Ideas

A 50th wedding anniversary, also known as a golden wedding anniversary, provides a couple's friends and loved ones with the sometimes intimidating or overwhelming opportunity to create sentimental, personal greeting cards in commemoration of this milestone anniversary celebration. Use these tips to make touching, impressive handmade cards that will surely delight the recipients.

Wedding Photo

  • Use a scanned copy of the couple's wedding photo on the outside of a folded piece of colored cardstock. Beneath the photo, type or write in scrolling, elegant font the words, "Remember when?" On the inside of the card, paste a more recent photo of the couple, perhaps one of them kissing or holding hands. In a border around the photo, write the names of the couple's children and grandchildren, the addresses of places they have lived, the cities visited on family vacations, and the names and years of life of any family pets. Beneath all of this, type or write in the same elegant font used on the front of the card the words, "Look how far you've come!" Sign the card after including a few sentimental lines about what the couple's strong marriage has meant to you or how you hope to emulate their example in your own marriage and family.

Family Photos

  • Fold a large piece of gold cardstock, symbolizing the couple's golden wedding anniversary. Decorate the front and inside of the card with wallet-sized family photos, including photos of the couple's descendants, family pets, homes or apartments, vehicles, vacations or romantic moments, such as anniversaries. In the middle of the inside of the card, write simply, "50 years, so many wonderful memories," and allow the photos you have chosen to speak for themselves.

Fitting Quotations

  • Pick out a few quotations that you think fit the couple's solid and lasting relationship. One example, fitting for a couple that argues constructively and respectfully of one another, is this Ann Landers quote from 1968: "All married couples should learn the art of battle as they should learn the art of making love. Good battle is objective and honest--never vicious or cruel. Good battle is healthy and constructive, and brings to a marriage the principle of equal partnership." On the outside of a folded piece of colored cardstock, write, "When I think of the two of you on your golden anniversary..." and on the inside, list the marriage or love-related quotations that you have chosen to be reflective of the couple celebrating their 50th anniversary.
