A football theme is appropriate for many events. Birthday parties, social events and parade floats can all be made with a football theme. Consider creating a football float for a homecoming or other type of parade. Because football is such an ingrained part of American culture, a float with a football theme will be appreciated by a large sampling of parade goers.
Regional Football Float
Choose a football team that is popular in your area to feature on your football-themed parade float. A professional football team or a city, high school or college team are all equally appropriate themes. Choose team colors as the basis for your float. Feature a large foam core logo at the center of your float. You can also have a vinyl banner created. Feature the team mascot on the float. Have people dressed in team gear walking along the parade route handing out bumper stickers or other team gear.
Generic Football Themed Float
You don't have to feature a specific team to feature on a football-themed parade float. Choose to have a general football-themed float instead. Feature large footballs cut from foam board and painted brown to resemble real footballs on the float. Green AstroTurf and generic football symbols should be utilized. Make large goal posts out of plastic tubing to feature on a football float. Large helmet cutouts can also be utilized. Instead of adding a symbol or logo to the helmet, just leave the helmet blank or add a company logo if the float is representing a company.
Football Heroes Float
The game of football is full of heroes. Choose to honor these football stars in a parade float. Use green as your base color to cover the float. This can be done with green indoor/outdoor carpet, or simply using a piece of green fabric. Set up easels with photos of football heroes, both past and present. Be sure to secure the easels and the frames with nails and screws as the float will be moving. Choose a few particularly interesting photos or some prominent players to highlight. Enlarge their photos and mount them on foam core. Add a spotlight to these photos in order to make them stand out more. If you can get a football hero to ride on your float, be sure to have a photo-op time after the parade so parade goers can greet the player.
Football Diorama Float
Create a football scene on the top of the float. Create a field with indoor/outdoor carpet. Create "fans" by painting a crowd on wood or foam core. Or get some live people to stand on the float and yell and cheer. A couple of people in football uniforms are critical for the float. Have some real cheerleaders following the float and cheering for the players on the float.
