The average American wedding costs approximately $29,000. A significant portion of the total cost includes the venue for your ceremony and reception. If you'd like to reduce the amount you spend for the wedding and are looking to get married in the Richmond, Virginia, area, there are several venue options available that will help you stay within your budget.
Apple Blossom Plantation
Nestled halfway between Williamsburg and Richmond, the Apple Blossom historic plantation (ablossomplantation.com) offers all-inclusive packages for the wedding and reception. The ceremony is held in the front courtyard by a bubbling fountain, and the reception takes place both in the house and in the back garden. As of 2011, If you hold your wedding in the "off" months (all months except May, June, September and October), a $3,900 fee will buy you a site for your ceremony and reception, a large outdoor tent that holds up to 200 guests, white chairs for your guests, a bridal suite, and five guest rooms for your bridal party or other family.
Historic Tuckahoe Plantation
Once the boyhood home of Thomas Jefferson (historictuckahoe.com), this 18th century plantation now offers a memorable setting for wedding ceremonies and receptions. Off-peak rates include months other than May/June and September/October and are $1,700 for the ceremony and $4,000 for the reception as of 2011. The fees include the rehearsal and set-up before the event.
The Mill at Fine Creek
Situated on a beautiful 10-acre lot, The Mill at Fine Creek (themillatfinecreek.com) is on the National Registry of Historic Sites and allows you to combine your ceremony and reception in one fee. The Mill has gorgeous gardens, stone buildings and a small cottage for a night's stay if you desire. For a Friday evening wedding and reception, you would pay $2,450 as of 2011. If you preferred a Saturday or Sunday wedding, the price would be $5,050, which would allow you full reign of the property from 11 a.m.-11 p.m.
The Manor House
Just north of Richmond is the Manor House at King's Charter (themanorhouseva.com). This property includes garden views, lush trees, a gazebo and a historic red-brick manor. For an all-inclusive price of $1,500, you will be able to have a Friday or Sunday wedding and reception on the property.
