Creating a personalized cake for a firefighter or EMT can be a great way to show appreciation for his contribution to society. Cake ideas for firefighters can range from fire hydrants to burning buildings. EMT cakes can be decorated with the Star of Life and a fondant stethoscope. Previous cake making experience is a plus when creating theme cakes.
Fire Hydrant Cake
Construct a cake to resemble a fire hydrant with a little creativity and cake making know-how. Construct the base of the cake with large, round cakes and the shaft of the hydrant with smaller round cakes. Each cake is held together with a layer of icing. The rounded top of the cake can be created with any type of mold that fits, such as a doll pan. Smaller round cakes are used for the spigots and held in place with dowels. The cake can be iced in any color from traditional fire hydrant red to white or any other desired color. Adornments such as candy kisses can be used for the bolts.
Burning Building Cake
A burning building cake with firefighter figurines extinguishing the fire can be an easy theme cake for the beginning cake maker. Stack four sheet cakes to create the building. Each layer is held together with icing. Use rolled or poured fondant icing to cover the cake. Then spread on varying colors of icing to represent windows with flames. Place a firefighter figurine or firetruck toy next to the cake to complete the design.
Star of Life EMT Cake
The beginning cake maker can easily create a round Star of Life cake for an EMT. Stack two round cakes together with icing. The cake can be iced with spreadable frosting, rolled or poured fondant. Cut out the shape of the Star of Life out of wax paper and place it in the center of the cake. Trace around the star with blue frosting. The inside of the star can be filled in with spreadable frosting or star shapes from a star-tipped frosting tube. Create the serpent and staff using a white frosting tube with a small tip.
Stethoscope EMT Cake
A basic cake recipe can be modified for an EMT by adding a stethoscope decoration. Stack two square cakes with a layer of icing between. Frost the cake with white icing. Decorate the sides of the cake with red piping in the pattern of a cardiac rhythm. For a final touch, create an edible stethoscope by shaping rolled fondant and placing it on top of the cake.
