What Seasonings Do You Use on Steaks?

Steak seasonings combine multiple flavors to set off a piece of meat, which already has its own hearty flavors. Steak rubs and sauces, like A1 or a traditional barbecue sauce also change up the taste of a traditional steak. Seasonings contain all sorts of ingredients, from onions to chipotle peppers. For the best taste, grilling steaks brings out the flavors of seasonings and the meat.

Montreal Steak Seasoning

  • With a blend of ground peppers, garlic and other spices, Montreal steak seasoning offers a flavorful seasoning. Grill Mates by McCormick sells a shaker specifically for this seasoning. Other ingredients include coarse salt, red pepper, sunflower oil and paprika.

Canadian Steak Seasoning

  • If you want to add a little onion and spice to a steak, Weber Canadian steak seasoning blends peppers and garlic with these flavors to create flavors often used for steaks, pork chops, salmon and portobello mushrooms. Weber also offers a recipe on the bottle, which allows the cook to combine the steak seasoning with oil and red wine vinegar for a steak marinade.

Chicago Steak Seasoning

  • If you want to grill or broil a steak, Chicago steak seasoning combines salt, hickory smoke, Tellicherry black pepper, sugar, onion, garlic, lemon zest and citric acid for a smoky, robust flavor. Penzeys Spices offers this seasoning as well as a barbecue recipe made from the seasoning.

Southwest Chipotle Seasoning

  • Omaha Steaks produces a "Southwest Chipotle" steak seasoning. The flavor provides a spicy taste, mixing smoky jalapeno peppers, onion, garlic, salt and other spices to create a tangy yet hot flavor. Omaha Steaks produces many seasonings, including a general steak seasoning and steak rub. They also have a salt-free rustic steak seasoning.

Cowtown Squeal Shaker

If you want an all purpose steak seasoning or sweet rub with lower salt content, Cowtown offers 6 to 7 oz. shakers or combo packs with all three rubs. In addition, they have spicier sauces for steaks like Night of the Living BBQ Sauce and Cowtown Barbecue Sauce.

Worcestershire sauce, 2 tbsp. malt or apple cider vinegar, 2 tbsp. ketchup or tomato sauce, five drops of hot pepper sauce and salt and pepper.
