Beach accessories can make your ocean-themed classroom pop with color.

Classroom themes can make your room a warm and inviting place. Students will be excited to see how you have incorporated your theme into the different areas of the classroom. Your classroom library can reflect your choice of theme, whether it be through the choice of seating or the decorations. An ocean theme classroom might feature beach chairs with towels. A Hollywood theme could include director's chairs. No matter what theme you choose, your students will love your classroom.

  1. Jungle

    • A jungle theme can be a fun way to swing into a new school year. For your classroom library, consider having a paper hut or use animal fabric to cover pillows and chairs. Fake plants and stuffed animals can add to the theme. Your welcoming bulletin board could be "Rumble in the Jungle in (whatever) Grade" or "Swinging into (whatever) Grade." The student of the week could be called "King or Queen of the Jungle." If you do a folder to communicate with parents, you can call it "The Jungle Book."

    Hollywood

    • Your students will all be stars with a Hollywood classroom theme. To begin this theme, you can make a "Walk of Fame" with each students' hand prints. Your introductory board could feature your students' photographs with sunglasses or feather boas. You can title the board, "Meet the Stars of (whatever) Room." Your reading corner can have directors' chairs and you could have a book recommendation board called, "Lights. Camera. Read." Title your parent communication folder "O.S.C.A.R. (Our Students Can Act Responsibly)."

    Ocean

    • A beach-themed classroom will have you feeling summer-y all school year. Decorate your classroom with palm trees and sea creatures. In your reading corner, or "Reader's Reef," add beach chairs and cover them with colorful beach towels. Your birthday board could be titled "Birthday Beach," with sandcastles featuring your students' birthdays. You could use a lei as a hall pass or for your helpers to wear. Your daily folder, or "O.C.E.A.N" binder, could stand for "Organized Communication Every Achiever Needs."

    Sports

    • Your classroom theme can use sports to encourage teamwork and respect. Decorate your room with hats or pennants. An idea for a classroom job bulletin board is to take each students' picture and make it into a baseball card. Your students can write some interesting facts about themselves to use with the card. Your student of the week could be the "MVP of the Week." An idea for your library center is to use a football field carpet and stadium chairs for students to sit on.
