The lives of police officers are no joke, but most cops have a lively sense of humor. They would appreciate any funny Christmas gift you dream up, from superhero stickers attached to mugs to gifts that play on stereotypes about police officers. Present any gift, such as a snack, with a small note that gives your recipient a hint about the joke involved, such as, "Here's something to keep you occupied on a stakeout."
Tools for the Job
Before your recipient opens a gift of tools to help do the job, create an "APB, All Points Bulletin," for Santa, describing the "suspect" as "wearing red, having a heavy white beard and believed to be carrying a large sack." Give the tools that would enable a capture, such as a toy light saber, a plate of cookies or flashing red and green lights. If your police officer likes family films, include a copy of the 2002 Christmas movie, "The Santa Trap."
Santa, reindeer and elves are all subjects that an officer could mimic for an undercover assignment and also double as funny Christmas gifts. Present your police officer with portions of costumes, such as a Santa beard and red hat, a green elf hat and fake pointed ears, or a reindeer antler headband. Or, offer an entire costume that includes a red Santa suit, complete with black boots, or an elf suit with a green skirt and pointy shoes.
On Patrols and Stakeouts
Nothing stereotypes police officers more than snacks, particularly doughnuts. Give your recipient a box of doughnuts sprinkled with red and green sprinkles and a certificate for a box-a-month. For the hours waiting during a stakeout, present a basket wrapped with red and green tissue paper. Include snacks and beverages you know your recipient will love along with warm gloves, socks or ear warmers with Christmas motifs.
Use red and green colors or gift wrapping to transform any gift into a Christmas present. Customize T-shirts with phrases such as, "Off-duty police officer working on a case" alongside a picture of a case of beer or one that says, "you huff and you puff, and we'll blow your door down," with a picture of the big, bad wolf. For a police officer who likes to barbecue, give a customized apron and a condiment gun to dispense ketchup and mustard.
