An invisible fence helps keep your dog home, safely.

An invisible fence keeps your pets close to home by emitting an electrical shock when the pet tries to cross the underground wires while wearing a special collar. After an invisible fence is installed, there are several reasons why you might want to disconnect it. You may be moving to a new home or have decided to expand the perimeter of your invisible fence. Some pets just do not take well to the invisible fence system and you may have to find a new way to keep your pet in your yard. Whatever the reason, you will need to disconnect the invisible fence before you take action. Essentially, it is the exact opposite steps of installing an invisible fence

Step 1

Remove the invisible fence collar from your pet and turn it off by the switch on the side.

Step 2

Locate the radio transmitter box. Disconnect the radio transmitter box from the electrical outlet. If you also have the optional battery backup system, you may want to remove the battery from the radio transmitter box, too. Two wires lead from either side of the invisible fence to the radio transmitter box. Remove each fence wire from the transmitter jacks. Unscrew the radio transmitter box from the wall.

Step 3

Carefully dig along the perimeter to uninstall the invisible fence wiring. Be careful not to cut or nick the wiring, especially if you want to reuse it. Avoid tangling the wiring, and store it somewhere it will not be damaged until you are ready to use it again. Refill the areas along the perimeter that you dug up.

Tip

Most people who uninstall the invisible fence to move from a home take their radio transmitter box and collar, but do not take the wiring. Instead, they install new wiring at the new place. They do this to avoid digging up the yard, and existing invisible fence wiring can be a selling point to buyers.

Warning

Please check your invisible fence contract. Depending on the details, you may be required to return the radio transmitter to the dealer.
