Reasons to Go on a Mission Trip

Mission trips can prove to be fulfilling.

Reasons for going on a mission trip vary from person to person. Some college-aged youths embark on mission trips because it is a school requirement or part of religious community activities, or they may belong to missionary families. Adults, on the other hand, have a range of personal reasons for joining. Whatever your motives are, going on long or short-term missions can prove to be life enriching.

Sharing the Good News

Spread the Gospel and share the good news of salvation to people in remote areas. This is the reason most Christians embark on mission trips. Give out Bibles to the natives, teach them about the religion and share with them your experiences about Jesus' love and how he works in your life. Let your life be a living Gospel to them, especially as you spend time and share experiences together.

Learn About Other Cultures

Take advantage of this rare opportunity to learn about other countries, peoples and cultures. Get out of your comfort zone. It not only allows you to expand your knowledge and experience of other peoples and places, but contributes to your personal growth, as well. It also helps make you realize that the world does not only revolve around you. Most importantly, it gives you a heart for service.

Live a Life of Purpose

Add meaning and purpose to your life by joining mission trips. Your experiences and education from such missions can help enrich your life and the lives of your family and other people around you, as you share with them realizations and insights from your trips. Living with a clear purpose can give you self-fulfillment no material things can provide.

Give Back to the Lord

Give back to the Lord his gifts of time, talent and treasure by reaching out to the less fortunate. Christians believe that these gifts are not theirs alone to use or dispose of, but are given by the Lord so they can share them with others who are also in need. Through mission trips, Christians hope they are able to use these gifts according to God's will.

Fulfill Your Calling

Heed that nagging voice in your heart that calls you to reach out to the needy in a more concrete manner. Most Christians go on mission trips to fulfill such a calling.
