Better Ideas for an Unused Dining Room

Save

If you have a dining room in your home that you do not use, remodeling the space to use for another purpose is highly practical. Using your dining room as another type of room will help you utilize the space and maximize storage in your home. Whether you are looking to add a family-fun game room or another bedroom, your unused dining room may offer the perfect solution.

Game Room

  • Even a small unused dining room can be transformed into a game room that is fun for the whole family. A small dining room can easily be converted into a video game room. For a video game room, be sure to hook up a TV and all of the necessary consoles and provide a few comfortable chairs for seating. Larger dining rooms can be used for large table games, such as pool or air hockey. Place a few bookshelves in the room to store and display your video and board games.

Bedroom

  • An enclosed dining room can be converted into a bedroom, provided that the windows and other features of the room meet all fire and safety regulations. To use your dining room as a bedroom, simply move a bed and dresser in and decorate the room to your liking. A small dining room can be used as a guest bedroom by placing a daybed or twin-sized bed in the room to provide sleeping space for guests while they are staying in your home.

Home Office

  • If you have always dreamed of having a home office, your unused dining room will provide you with the opportunity to have one. Make sure the dining room is wired for the Internet, or have access to a wireless router for your computer. Set up your desk, computer, printer, fax machine or any other office items you wish in the dining room and decorate it according to your taste.

Library

  • If you are an avid reader with an expansive book collection, transform your unused dining room into a library by purchasing bookshelves and storing all of your books in the room. You may also wish to place a comfortable chair in the room for you to relax in while you read. Other furniture to consider placing in your library include a side or end table and an ottoman. If you plan to read in your library, be sure the room has good lighting so you do not have to strain your eyes.
