If you're planning a small wedding of 25 people or less, you may find it difficult to find information. Although there is a lot of research about weddings online and elsewhere, most are tips for larger weddings and aren't applicable to small weddings. A small wedding allows you to have an intimate setting with just your soon-to-be-spouse and some of your closest family and friends. Even though your wedding is small, there are many ways to make it unique and memorable.
Since most small weddings are held in a smaller venue, don't go over the top with decorations. A smaller venue means "less is more." If you're getting married in a small church or chapel, consider placing two pots of your favorite flowers at the top of the altar, instead of flowers and ribbons on each pew. If your wedding is small due to budget, save even more by buying and planting the flowers yourself and bring them back to your house or the reception venue to enjoy later.
If you're getting married outside, you may not need any decorations at all, as the environment might speak for itself. If not, consider stringing white lights along the aisles or near the altar for an inexpensive way to add sparkle, especially if the wedding is at night.
Having a small wedding often opens up many more location options. Consider inviting a handful of friends and family to join you and your partner on the beach in Hawaii or at another tropical location. A destination wedding is ideal for a small group. You'll create an intimate experience shared by those who attend.
If money is a concern, hold your wedding in your backyard or a friend's backyard if yours isn't large enough. This will create a more relaxed atmosphere your guests will enjoy. Other location ideas are a bed and breakfast, public park, museum or restaurant.
Instead of hiring a photographer, which can cost thousands, consider asking a friend or family member to take photos. Many people have digital cameras now that take photos that are high resolution enough to be enlarged. Or give every guest a disposable camera and ask them to take photos throughout your wedding and reception.
Print photos yourself either online or at a drugstore and arrange them in a photo album. If all your photos are digital, print the entire photo album through an online company. Not only will you save money, but you have the opportunity to choose your own favorite photos for your wedding album, rather than having a photographer choose the pictures and poses for you.
Consider asking your bridesmaids to wear their favorite dress in a particular color. They will still match but you won't need to spend the money for buy each the exact dress. Ask groomsmen to wear a suit they have, or if the wedding is more casual, slacks and a shirt and tie. Give every member of the wedding party a small item that matches, like a pin or a flower, so it's clear that they are an important part of your wedding.
For the bride, instead of the traditional long white dress, consider wearing a short white dress or a dress in your favorite color. The bride can also carry flowers that tie in with the color that her bridal attendants are wearing.
