Make kids party snacks both fun and nutritious.

No birthday party is complete without an array of delicious snacks. Providing snacks doesn't necessarily mean giving kids a sugar rush. Move beyond the traditional chips and candy dishes. There are plenty of creative, delicious and healthy snack options that are sure to appeal to kids' sense of fun. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Toast Toppers

    • Most kids love to play with their food. This delicious snack is both healthy and fun. Spread margarine, cream cheese or peanut butter on slices of toasted whole wheat bread. Give kids a selection of toppings, such as chopped nuts or crunchy cereal like Cheerios, and let them create their own design such as a smiley face with the toppings on the bread.

    Shrunken Sandwiches

    • These bite-sized snacks make for a great party platter. Purchase a box of mini crackers, such as Ritz Bitz. Cut pieces of ham and cheese into small rounds the size of the tiny crackers. Place ham and cheese rounds on the crackers. Cover with another cracker to make a bite size sandwich kids are sure to gobble up.

    Cheese Kabobs

    • Turn a healthy fruit and cheese platter into a fun snack for kids. Cut cheese into fun shapes using a cookie cutter. Rotate the cheese slices with fruit and slip onto a toothpick making a miniature kabob. Make sure the toothpick isn't too sharp so kids don't hurt themselves when they bite off the pieces.

    Pizza Shapes

    • This fun take on one of kids' favorite foods is super easy. Bake a pizza with whatever topping your child enjoys. Using a cookie cutter or a sharp knife, cut the pizza into fun finger size shapes and serve.

    Peanut Butter Quesadillas

    • A fun twist on the traditional peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, peanut butter quesadillas are both delicious and nutritious. Spread peanut butter on one side of a tortilla. Fold the tortilla in half so that the peanut butter is on the inside and heat in a skillet for 2 minutes on each side until the tortilla is slightly toasted and the peanut butter is melted. Slice into finger-food size wedges. Place jelly in a bowl for dipping. You can add sliced bananas too for extra flavor or use honey instead of jelly as a dipping sauce.
