Sealy beds and mattresses have been in production in the U.S. since 1881, and the brand is now a global market leader, distributed throughout the world. As its name suggests, the Crown Jewel is a luxury mattress. It is part of Sealy’s Posturepedic collection, which was launched in 1950 to help people with back problems, so it has a firm sleeping surface. In 2010, the new Crown Jewel mattress featured in Sealy’s Diamond Anniversary Collection.
Crown Jewel mattresses are manufactured in several countries, including Australia, New Zealand, the UK and South Africa. Like all Sealy mattresses, the Crown Jewel is handcrafted. Hand-tufting anchors the layers of padding together so that they cannot move, and the mattress also features flag-stitched handles, micro-quilting and molded corner guards. The adult mattress is approximately 11.5 inches (29 cm.) deep, and is available in six sizes: standard, long and king-size single, double, queen-size and king-size.
The Crown Jewel contains a dual-support spring system, which was designed in 2001, in conjunction with a team of orthopedic surgeons. At the bottom of the mattress is a layer of Posture Tech Ultra Luxe springs, which offer firm support to the body. At the top is the Synerflex system, which consists of more than a thousand micro-pocket springs, which are motion- and pressure-responsive so that they mold to the body’s contours. This prevents roll together and cushions the impact of a sleeping partner’s movements, thus reducing sleep disturbance. The mattress does not need turning.
The Crown Jewel’s mattress cover is made from Belgian-quality damask. Mattresses made since 2008 contain Coolmax knitted fabrics, which help to keep the mattress cool and dry and are also eco-friendly. The filling contains probiotic micro-flora, which limit the number of dust mites, making it suitable for people with allergies.
Edge Guard System
The Edge Guard system consists of a high-density foam strip that is placed alongside the edge of the springs to prevent the mattress from sagging as a result of being sat upon, which helps to prolong its lifespan. This system also offers a firm surface for people who sleep close to the edge of the bed.
The Sealy Baby Posturepedic Crown Jewel
This version of the Crown Jewel mattress is made for baby cribs, but will also fit toddler bed frames. The mattress has the Posture Tech spring system, with 220 coils. There are steel bars inside the mattress to distribute the baby’s weight evenly, and Everedge pylons at each corner for additional support. The cover is anti-static and tear-resistant, and coated with Staph-Guard, which inhibits the growth of bacteria. It is also mildew-resistant and stain-guarded, so if something is spilled on the mattress it can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. The Baby Posturepedic Crown Jewel contains layers of insulation made from non-allergenic materials, and although flammability compliant, contains no toxic fire retardants.
