Blue Curacao is a festive blue-colored orange liqueur created from bitter oranges. Coconut rum is liquor distilled from sugar cane and infused with the rich, creamy taste of the hard-shelled fruit. This heavenly pair easily mixes with a variety of juices and other liqueurs to create a variety of delicious drinks. Probably the most famous blue cocktail is the blue Hawaiian. There are many variations on this cocktail that, surprisingly, was first created in London. For the classic drink, mix together blue Curacao, coconut rum and pineapple juice. Serve in a tall glass over ice. For a creamy variation, coconut cream can be added. For a more potent concoction, add in a shot of white rum. For the fruity blue Hawaiian, mix together coconut rum, banana-flavored rum, blue Curacao and orange juice. Shake in a cocktail shaker, strain into a martini glass and top with lemon-lime soda.
The blue coconut mixes blue Curacao and coconut rum with lemon lime soda for a refreshing beverage. To create the Caribbean breeze, mix equal parts coconut rum, blue Curacao and midori liqueur with pineapple juice. Blend ingredients in a cocktail shaker and strain into a tall glass filled with ice. Serve this drink garnished with a pineapple wedge. For the agua cocktail shooter, pour coconut rum and blue Curacao into a shot glass. Top with Bailey’s Irish cream. Let the cream sink to the bottom of the drink then swirl through to create a water-like effect.
The red tropical tango is made by mixing together blue Curacao, tropical fruit schnapps, cherry brandy and coconut rum, finished with a drizzle of mango syrup. Serve in a highball glass or a decorative brandy snifter over ice and garnish with a maraschino cherry. To make the aloe cocktail, mix together coconut rum, blue Curacao, vodka, peach schnapps and banana liqueur. Strain into a glass over ice and add a splash each of pineapple and orange juice. For the flying purple squirrel, mix together two parts light rum with one part blue Curacao and one part coconut rum. Add a splash of grenadine and fresh lime juice. Shake ingredients in a cocktail shaker and strain into a martini glass. Top with club soda and garnish with a wedge of lime.
The blue banana colada is a potent, yet tasty drink made by blending coconut rum, banana liqueur, a splash of blue Curacao, orange juice, pineapple juice and a banana. Puree ingredients in a blender until smooth. Pour into a tall cocktail glass and garnish with a pineapple wedge and a slice of orange. For the blue dream, mix blue Curacao, coconut rum and pina colada mix in a blender. Blend ingredients and pour into a tall glass. Serve this cocktail topped with whipped cream.
