Keep the flames of love burning by renewing your wedding vows.

Most couples spend a great deal of money, time and energy planning a dream wedding but give little or no thought to how they might want to renew their vows 10, 20 or 50 years down the road. Renewing your wedding vows is a way to reaffirm your love and commitment for your spouse. Find creative ways to say, "I still do after all these years."

  1. Make It Retro

    • Have fun renewing your vows by re-enacting the time period in which you got married. Walk down the aisle wearing fashions from that era. Style your hair the same way you wore it for your wedding and have your guests join in on the fun by dressing in clothing from the 1960s, 1970s or 1980s. Hire a band to play the same songs that were popular when you got married and have your first dance to the same song as you did the first time around.

    Make It a Family Affair

    • Include your parents, in-laws, children and grandchildren in the renewal ceremony by inviting them to share stories that reflect on your wedding. You can also have them read scriptures, recite poetry, sing a song or do a praise dance. Have family members bring photos, videos, scrapbooks and other memorabilia from your wedding or marriage and set up an interactive display with each individual explaining the significance of each item.

    Take a Trip

    • Destination vow renewals may attract couples who had small weddings or did not have the opportunity go on a proper honeymoon. Take a trip with your spouse and renew your vows on the beach in Hawaii, in a chapel in Vegas or against the backdrop of Niagara Falls. Create a lasting memory and get a second chance at a honeymoon.

When to Renew Your Wedding Vows

    • Although there are no hard and fast rules as to when to renew your wedding vows, many couples choose to renew their vows on their anniversary date. Most couples renew their vows on special anniversaries like their 10th, 25th or 50th wedding anniversary. Others renew vows after going through a trying time in the marriage. Whatever the reason, vow renewals should be a sacred time to reflect and rededicate yourself to the life you've built with your spouse.
