Objectives For Scrapbooking
Scrapbooking is essentially a craft hobby that allows people to creatively document events or activities using pictures, brochures, ticket stubs and other small items. For example, a married couple might make a scrapbook on their first year of marriage and include pages on things like vacations they took and holidays they celebrated together. Although scrapbooking is primarily done for fun, there are certain objectives it helps accomplish.

Organizing Pictures
-
Most people will take pictures, get them developed and then pack them away to sit around and collect dust. Some might even put them in a photo album. However, with scrapbooking, pictures are organized and arranged in a way that emphasizes the event or activity that is the subject of the book. Also in scrapbooking, only the best pictures are included, so it gets right to the point and showcases the best images pertaining to a particular event or activity. Additionally, after you're done scrapbooking, the finished book can be put on coffee tables and end tables for guests to browse through.
Preserving Memories
-
Scrapbooking isn't just about pictures. Scrapbookers include other things to help preserve the memory of an event. For example, if you're scrapbooking a vacation you took to San Francisco, you might include your ticket to Alcatraz, a brochure from Golden Gate Park and a wine list from a Napa Valley winery to compliment your photos. Additionally, you can caption the photos included in the book, so years from now when you look back at your work, you're never wondering where you were when the picture was taken.

Tell a Story
-
Scrapbooking doesn't just have to be about events and activities. Scrapbooking can be done in a much broader sense as well. For example, it can be used to tell the story of one's life or document a period of one's life. An example is making a scrapbook about a recent high school graduate's first 18 years of life. Such a scrapbook can include pictures after birth, on the first day of kindergarten, all the way through high school homecomings, prom and graduation.
Unleash Your Creativity
-
Don't think of scrapbooking as just placing pictures on a page. Think of it more as a creative event. You can find all kinds of different types of paper to fit any page's theme at your local arts and crafts store. Other techniques, such as matting your photos and purchasing stickers to compliment a page's theme can help liven up a page. The things you can do are limitless.
